The age thing is just a cope, Jay was at his mentiest when he was 50 years old, and the lack of Jason and Lenny for sure hurts any videos a lot but it’s not impossible to have a good video without them.
It’s the unwillingness from Brad, Jay and everyone else to ham it up and make some content that puts the nails in the coffin.
And these boomers have a better understanding of the internet nowadays than they did back then. If the misfits peak happened 8 years later it could’ve all just been mindless entertainment that people forgot quickly and got washed away in the algorithm when the decline started and everyone gave up but that wasn’t how it worked back when they were making videos. Back then people formed communities around shit they liked and actually cared about those that made it (whether the caring was positive or negative). They saved content, they made their own jokes, they dug up information, they built a world around these dumbos and their dumb gym videos on the internet, some of them even bought the retarded shirts and donated to a patreon that only served as Lenny’s GHB and tranny fund. That’s why people still care.
