I can’t sleep. Was just out in some rough part of town with a gal. She went in a random bar to use the bathroom before we left.
Meanwhile, I sat on the patio. I pulled a chair away from a half empty table then sat in it looking at my phone. A pretty big guy walked over 5 mins later or so and told me he was saving those chairs for his friends. I calmly told him half the table was empty and the people sitting there didn’t say anything when I took it. He got loud in the city and went crazy. I stood there staring him dead in the eye without flinching and we were nose to nose. I saw the open chin but just didn’t throw the punch. After a short stare he grabbed the chair and walked off with me just standing there mad dogging him.
I’m 17 190ish he was prob late 30s mid 200s. No excuse tho, still should have thrown the punch but I didn’t. I legitimately can’t sleep, I’m so ashamed for just freezing and staring at him angrily.
Don’t listen to any of these clowns saying you should have done something. I guarantee half of them have never even been in a real fight, because if they have, they would not be telling you to sucker punch some guy over a chair.
When you get into a street fight, here’s what you need to consider:

You can get your as beat severely and end up in the hospital

You can hit your head on a curb or bounce your head of the concrete and die (more common than you would think)

The other person can hit their head on the concrete and die

The other person can have a knife or gun and might use it if you start winning (ex. George Zimmerman)

The other person could have friends around who will jump in
-
Even if they don’t have a weapon on them they might go get after the fight

You can get sued

You can end up on youtube getting KO’d
Lastly, fighting is harder than you’d think. It looks easy and every guy thinks they can fight which is why so many guys are so quick to fight over stupid shit.
The reason Lenny gets shit is because he’ll specifically call people and threaten to fight them and when they take him up on his offer he backs down.
Fighting is for in the ring. In the streets loser goes to the hospital and winner goes to jail.
Don’t listen to people here try to deescalate the situation unless he got physical then if course defend yourself. Don’t let your hormones and young age and this sub environment influence you in bad ways.
I knew a guy who picked a fight like that, he was a black belt so very confident…the problem was that his opponent backed down, but then suddenly pepper sprayed him and then kicked the shit out of him when down…he couldn’t come to work, lost his job, got evicted and life went down the shitter for a few months…don’t risk it maaan!!!

This, the other guy started confronting you and you stood your ground. Starting a fight in that instance would have been really stupid. If he throws a punch first you defend yourself, but being in a serious fight sucks. You can get sued, someone can get hurt badly, he can suddenly pull a knife, his friends can jump you from behind and cubstomp you, all kind of shit can happen in a serious fight.
Be in a position to defend yourself if he actually starts shit, but don’t be a PM and throw the first punch.

You did the right thing. At 17 you feel invincible, but so much crazy stuff can happen in a fight. One of you could land a lucky punch causing the recipient to fall, hit his head, and die. One of you is dead and the other is in prison for life over an argument about a chair. The only reason to not just walk away and forget about it is ego, and ego is usually not a good reason to do anything.
